Natura 2000 site
Let’s start with the NATURA 2000 sites. It is “a set of European natural or semi-natural sites”. These sites are “identified for the rarity or fragility of wildlife, animals or plants and their habitats”.
There are three of them: The country of Sault, the Rebenty basin and the high valley of the Aude, the Aiguette basin.
The Canal du Midi
The Canal du Midi, about an hour from Axat, for a sumptuous trip by bike, on foot or by boat!
Lakes and waterfalls
The waterfalls of Roquefort les Cascades offer a magical spectacle in spring and in winter when the water is abundant or frozen.
The fountain of Fonstestorbes characterized by a rare and extraordinary phenomenon. During low water periods, it becomes abruptly intermittent with rhythmic and regular variations in flow. The site offers a picnic area.

The hikes
Numerous hikes through lagoons, garrigues, vineyards and forests are accessible to all in the Aude or in the Ariège. There are no less than 20 favorite circuits to follow during your stay, one of which starts in Axat in front of the train station “le sentier du Train”.
